Determining the glycemic index of the optimal support shake

Diabetes is one of the world’s greatest global health challenges, with the growth of the disease peaking sharply in Southeast Asia, where research has predicted a 74% increase in the number of sufferers between 2019 and 2045.

This trend, together with research highlighting the benefits of dairy proteins on stabilising blood sugar levels, have given rise to market opportunities in Asia for nutritional solutions for diabetics that are similar to everyday foods in the areas of taste, appearance and function.

To leverage on the trend, FCI recently developed the Optimal Support Shake, a whey protein based meal replacement powder that also supports digestive health. The prototype of the concept was sent for Glycemic Index (GI) testing at the Glycemic Index Research Unit (GIRU) at Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore. The conclusion of the tests confirmed the low-GI properties of the Optimal Support Shake.
