Disease Related Malnutrition
As a result of a disease and its treatment, food intake is often reduced and the metabolism disturbed, which can lead to malnutrition. Disease-related malnutrition (DRM) has a strong influence on disease management and quality of life in patients and frail people. Two main determinants of DRM are insufficient protein and energy intake.
- 20-50% of patients suffer from Disease Related Malnutrition
- Recommended protein intake is 1.2-1.5gram/kg per day
- Providing protein-rich nutrition has been linked to positive effects on clinical outcomes
