The lowdown on LCPUFAs: uncovering consumer insights
Submit to downloadIt’s never too early to start thinking about a baby’s health – as today’s parents know all too well. So, when it comes to choosing an infant milk formula, they’re putting in the research to find the right product. What’s more, parents are happy to spend more to make sure it best suits their baby’s needs.
Although it’s an exciting time, having a baby can also bring concerns. 59% of consumers with an infant aged under one year say they’re anxious about their child’s immune health, according to a global FrieslandCampina survey.
Brain health is a top priority too, with many people looking to support their infants’ cognitive development, even before they start school. Our survey found that over half (54%) of parents are concerned about their child’s mental wellbeing.

With these concerns at the front of their minds, parents are finding that long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs) fit the bill. And so they’re on the lookout for these ingredients, like DHA and ARA, as they have a better understanding of their value and the health benefits they offer. The figures speak for themselves: 40% of parents prefer infant milk formula containing DHA, and 33% say they want it to contain ARA.

The result? The market is expanding to include a wide mix of products to address parental concerns.
